- For the last month and a-half, I've been posting my frustrations over
- shortcomings with USR tech support since the end of October, and bugs in
- Sportster Vi 28.8 modems that I purchased or recommended. Well, today the
- story took a turn for the better when USR sent me replacement ROMs with
- the 10/13-14/95 supervisor and DSP code in them. Viola, the 57K no-work
- problem, and voicemail problems operating at serial line speeds over 38.4k
-
- DISAPPEARED! I'm pretty sure the shenanigans leaving the modem
- off-hook were nailed, to, as I don't see the infamous VOICE ERROR:1002
- anymore which indicated that the software and modem were out-of-sync.
-
- I still don't know about the noisy messages and low playback volume--the
- jury
- is still out until testing is done.
-
- I also got V34+ in these ROMs, which is another proof that Vi's will
- get/have gotten the 33.6 upgrade.
-
- I still am dissatisfied with USR's disclosure of problems, poor tech
- support response, and lack of pre-release testing which is without excuse,
- but hopefully my modems are on the road to becoming the trouble-free
- modems that my Sportster 14.4K was.
-
- I'll post updates if there are any.
